A CMA-Based Electronically Reconfigurable Dual-Mode and Dual-Band Antenna

In this work, an electronically reconfigurable dual-band dual-mode microstrip ring antenna with high isolation is proposed. Using characteristic mode analysis (CMA), the physical characteristics of are revealed, and two modes appropriately chosen for operation in sub-6 GHz “legacy” bands. Due to inherent orthogonality modes, measured larger than 37 dB was achieved both bands without requiring complicated decoupling approaches. An integrated matching network (comprising PIN diodes varactors) designed switch between operation. The simulated results were excellent agreement, showing a peak gain 4.7 radiation efficiency values 44.3% 64%, respectively. CMA insights into radiative orthogonal under-researched non-conventional antennas (e.g., arbitrary shapes) opens door developing highly compact radiators, which enable next-generation communication systems.
